Checking the Usage Time of a Hard Drive in Synology DSM
-
Log in to DSM
- Access your Synology NAS DSM interface by entering its IP address in a browser.
- Log in with your administrator credentials.
-
Open the Storage Manager
- In the main menu, open "Storage Manager".
-
Check the Drive Status
- Click on "HDD/SSD" in the left menu.
- Select the hard drive you want to check.
-
Check SMART Information
- Click on the "Health" tab.
- Press the "View SMART Info" button.
- Look for the "Power-On Hours" value, which indicates the total number of hours the drive has been in use.
-
Interpret the Results
- If the drive shows a very high number of hours despite being recently purchased, it might be a recertified or second-hand drive.
- A new drive should display 0 or a very low number of hours.
-
Run an Advanced SMART Test (Optional)
- In the SMART section, run a quick test or an extended test to assess the drive’s health.
This guide will help you ensure your drive is genuinely new and in good working condition. ??
